A step change towards sustainable aviation fuel from sewage sludge

چکیده
Sewage sludge, an abundant and problematic organic waste, was successfully converted into sustainable jet fuel range hydrocarbons (C8-C16). sludge pre-conditioned processed through a Thermo-Catalytic Reforming (TCR) system (2 Kg/h) at 450 ºC pyrolysis 700 post-reforming temperature to produce biocrude oil. The bio-crude oil subsequently conditioned upgraded via consecutive two-step hydroprocessing, comprising hydrodeoxygenation hydrocracking as two separate unit operations. hydroprocessing carried out in bench-scale batch high-pressure reactor (autoclave). process parameters such temperature, feed volume, catalyst loading, time were held constant, whilst the H2 pressure varied. effect of across 30 – 60 bar on quality hydroprocessed evaluated terms elemental composition, chemical compound distribution, properties. Hydroprocessing resulted better properties compared H2. Hence, approximately 25% by weight fraction, including normal, cyclo iso-paraffins aromatics C8–C16 range, recovered atmospheric distillation derived fraction met majority specifications for calorific value, viscosity, density, freeze point under ASTM D7566 standard. Some smoke, flash total acid number slightly fell specifications. also produced green naphtha diesel by-products. In addition, further tested reusability regeneration potential that showed promising results future research.

Sewage Sludge Management in Egypt: Current Status and Perspectives towards a Sustainable Agricultural Use
The present disposal routes of sewage sludge represent a critical environmental issue in Egypt. Recently, there has been an increasing concern about sewage sludge management due to the environmental risks, which resulted from the fast expansion of wastewater treatment plants without equal attention in dealing with the produced sludge. This paper discusses the current situation of sewage sludge ...
متن کاملRenewable Energy from Sewage Sludge
At present, the main contributors to waste to energy are municipal solid waste, manufacturing waste and landfill gas. Probably we are all most familiar with the first (MSW), which involves the garbage that the garbage men pick up regularly at our homes and which goes to a landfill, a transfer station, or incinerator. Today we are going to introduce you to something relatively new on the alterna...
متن کاملSustainable and Innovative Solutions for Sewage Sludge Management
Sludge produced by municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) amounts to only a few percent by volume of the processed wastewater, but its handling accounts for up to 50% of total operating costs. Moreover, the need to achieve a sustainable sludge management strategy has become of great concern. It follows that as conventional and more traditional options, such as land spreading for agricult...
متن کاملBiofuels from sewage sludge- A review
Municipal sewage sludge is a solid, semisolid, or liquid muddy looking residue that results after plain old sewage (human and other waste from households and industries) is treated at a waste water treatment plant. Recent restrictions on the use of sewage sludge, however, have resulted in increased disposal problems. Sludge contains a variety of organic and inorganic compounds in the waste wate...
